Job Security?

On the way to work this morning I'm listening to the radio and I hear, "AT&T ready to lay off nearly 5,000 of it's employees... many coming from middle management positions as AT&T plans to streamline operations". Let me say..."WOW"... There a couple things I saw in this scenario...

1. Even being employed by the largest telecommunication company in the U.S. does not provide as much security as people are led to believe.
2. The jobs they are cutting are 'from middle management' which is another word for middle class wage earners. Just another CLUE, if you will, for the middle class... that's as far as I'll go there.

So after being downsized and/or cut loose what do people do? What are their options? Well most continue to get back in the race and attempt to find another gig... preferably one that pays, at the very minimum, an equal salary but in most cases that just won't be the case. Unemployment rates continue to rise as incomes lower and yet inflation continues to grow at alarming rates. I saw on Good Morning America some interesting facts. Home heating oil is up 13.1% from last year... Soap up 2%... Gas up 1.3%... Tomatoes 19%... Milk 26%... and a dozen eggs up 41%... We're seeing a 25% increase in retail store closures across the board... Not sure what all this means to you but to me its clarity and evidence to what is actually happening in our country.

I hate to be the fear mongrel that our government has been for years but there has got to be some attention paid here.

I'm actually not complaining believe it or not... This is good for business in a sense. The home based business industry is booming like never before! It strives in bad economic times and the pickings are golden when times are great... 175,000 individual will start a home based business this week in the U.S. and 475,000 world wide. The dream and my hope is that those who want more out of life, and wish to design their futures, will see the light before they get downsized. Most home based businesses take very little capital to get started and can be worked very part-time along side a career. I work my home business about 10 hours a week and my J.O.B. 45+ hours per week. While we're at it... let me straight forward and honest... there is nothing EASY about running a business from home. Like anything you want to get into a SYSTEM that is SIMPLE to follow for anyone willing to run it. NOW if anyone comes to you offering you a business opportunity that all you have to do is check your email and you can make $60,000 this month... RUN! Don't get me wrong, I'm a big dreamer but come on!

ANY business takes a usable product and/or service, proper professional training (if you plan on making a professional income), support, and a system that'll take some of the guess work out of it. This is vitally important if you already have a demanding lifestyle, you have no time for trial and error. Additionally anything worth having will come with growing pains... This is true about EVERYTHING in life! Anyone who thinks it'll be otherwise with running a business is fooling themselves.
